I made a blog post about implementing hold buffers in fighting games. owencmyk.xyz/dfg/hold-buffe… They're by favourite kind of input buffer and I would love if more fighting games adopted them.

"you control the buttons you press" is a reasonable response to people getting mad at dialogue choices or character customisation options they don't have to use, but expecting players to avoid optimising the fun out of a game is more of a design issue than a player issue.

WIP game for the #FightingGameAprilJam2026 Everything looks a bit terrible. Some of it looks terrible in a good way because it's meant to look like an old fighting game, but the character sprites and stage look a bit terrible in the bad way unfortunately.

One of my pet peeves is people who think being good at a game is the same as being good at designing / balancing a game. Obviously you need feedback from high level players to balance high level play, but you also need feedback from low level players to balance low level play.
