Here is the August 2024 climate summary. Temperatures were a little warmer than normal with a cooler period in the middle of the month. While Grand Rapids had below normal precipitation, many locations were near normal.

Summer 2024 through southwest Michigan was a little warmer than normal. Warmest temperatures were in June and in August. Precipitation was near normal in Mid Michigan. However along and south of the I-94 corridor it was in the Top 5 wettest summers.

Two more sunny and warm days before a cold frontal passage Thursday night ushers in cool, breezy and showery weather for the upcoming weekend. Highs Saturday will be only around 60 degrees with northerly winds gusting to 30 mph.

The weekend looks much colder due to cold front which should move through Thursday night. Breezy, showery weather will continue Friday with clearing but cold weather Saturday into Sunday. High's on Saturday will be around 60. Temperatures should rebound early next week.

Autumn in Michigan is many things. Among them, it's waterspout season! When cold air moves over the warmer water of the Great Lakes, showers tend to develop, and they can sometimes make waterspouts. We'll be looking out over Lake Michigan later in the day Friday & into Saturday.
