Black student nurses often face racism through microaggressions, exclusion, and being undervalued in clinical settings. They may be assigned less desirable tasks, struggle to find mentors, or have patients refuse their care. #equality4blacknurses

Overworked, Underappreciated, The Reality for Black Nurses in the NHS: Black nurses in NHS are more likely to face disproportionate discrimination in promotions, heavier workloads, and frequent microaggressions from colleagues and patients. Despite being the backbone of NHS.

Although there are equality, diversity and inclusion measures in place within the NHS to protect nurses and patients from racism, unfortunately it seems that those people who are in charge of NHS departments lack the knowledge, expertise and insight to recognise what racism is.

In hospital halls where care is sacred, silence hides the harm. Their strength is unmatched, yet their voices go unheard. Racism doesn’t wear scrubs—but it walks these wards. When support systems fail, who really stands with them?

Black and minority ethnic (BME) staff constitute almost a fifth of the total NHS workforce, yet the experiences they often face do not correspond with the values upon which the NHS proudly stands.

Staff who report racism are more likely to face subtle or overt retaliation (e.g., being excluded, demoted, or given worse shifts). This discourages others from speaking up, creating a cycle of silence.

Racism has no place in the NHS. This must be addressed, and everyone – including the NHS and government – must work together to do more to tackle racism within health and care

Racism has held back the NHS by limiting the full potential of its diverse workforce. Talented staff face barriers to promotion, stalling innovation and leadership diversity. Workplace discrimination creates toxic environments that drive away skilled professionals. 🚨✊🏾

True leadership begins with acknowledging the truth, Racism in the NHS must be faced, not brushed off as nothing serious. Only by naming it can healing take flight, Justice and equity start with bringing bias to light🗣✊🏾

In 2023, Michelle Cox a courageous nurse stood up against systemic bias, winning a landmark case that reformed NHS disciplinary practices. Her fight wasn't just personal—it was for every underrepresented voice in healthcare. Today, her legacy reminds us: that when shall unite🔈✊🏾

Did you know? In 2024, nearly 1 in 3 Black and other Minority NHS staff (30%) reported harassment or abuse from patients or the public — higher than their White colleagues at 26%. ✊🏾🗣

The NHS still reflects colonial power. White voices lead, while others are silenced. Black and minority nurses are sidelined. Qualified, yet denied the chance to rise. Racism is not in the past — It’s built into the system today.
