Eirik, Girish and Srikar from NTNU_EPT have successfully commissioned PIV in the #NTNU Turbulent Combustion Lab, with methane-#hydrogen flames! The work will eventually help #reduceCO2 emissions from #gasturbine engines as part of the #STAproject.

#gasturbine combustors can be arranged in a number of ways. Philip from NTNU_EPT has designed a new lab scale "can-annular" setup in order to study combustion instabilities (the whining noise in the video), which can occur with these methane-#hydrogen flames.

Congratulations to Håkon Nygård from NTNU_EPT who successfully defended his #PhD thesis! He is the first doctoral candidate to graduate from NTNU Turbulent Combustion Lab! His thesis (ntnuopen.ntnu.no/ntnu-xmlui/han…) contains some really interesting findings relating to annular #gasturbine combustors.

What a great month! Thomas Indlekofer from NTNU_EPT just successfully defended his #PhD thesis, becoming the second doctoral graduate from NTNU Turbulent Combustion Lab! His thesis (ntnuopen.ntnu.no/ntnu-xmlui/han…) contains some really interesting work on #hydrogen combustion dynamics in annular geometry.

Very happy to announce a new paper by Håkon Nygård from NTNU_EPT in collaboration with Giulio Ghirardo: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Håkon analysed an incredible 5.2 million (!) images to quantify how flame response symmetry can be broken in annular combustors. #ERC_Research

A new paper by Eirik at NTNU_EPT neatly demonstrating the link between the flame response and flow disturbances shed from cylinders in the flow, with particular relevance for #hydrogen flames. asmedigitalcollection.asme.org/gasturbinespow…

If the sun doesn't shine, or the wind suddenly drops then #gasturbine engines can quickly pick up the load. New findings by Byeonguk from NTNU_EPT show how dynamic ramping can affect the stability of #hydrogen blended flames in our IPA rig. #ERC_Research asmedigitalcollection.asme.org/gasturbinespow…

Thomas Indlekofer and James Dawson from NTNU_EPT collaborated with colleagues at ETH Zürich to show how tiny geometric asymmetries can induce periodic switching of the azimuthal modes spin direction in an annular combustor. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

A new publication from Eirik Æsøy from NTNU_EPT which shows how to use vortex shedding to target and cancel out heat release rate fluctuations on #hydrogen blended flames. Check out the amazing shots of the flame dynamics in the full paper! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Dirren Govender from NTNU_EPT just developed a new measurement method! A UV laser sheet is scanned through a large volume to isolate a single flame in an annular combustor and then reconstruct it in 3D! For full details: doi.org/10.1007/s00348…
