My social battery during this lockdown is so low, I feel like I can speak to specific people or else it feels like too much energy.

There's no cognitive dissonance one lives with quite like that of being a cis het married feminist. Even in the most loving relationship(s)... it's got the essence of Stockholm Syndrome. One day I'll find the courage to write about it specifically.

One of the girls in my 9 year old’s class just said “My favorite author, other than myself, is Judy Blume,” and that’s the energy I want to see from all women writers going forward

Something amazing my midwife taught me right after giving birth is to have your sanitary towel right at the shower door. That way you can put it on before you step out, or put it on even before drying your body. The point is, you can put it on just as you switch off the water.

Jackson Mthembu's wife is still a nurse at a clinic. This is unusual in the ANC. A wife of a minister in the Presidency still working at a clinic? No family tender? No connections? Just contend to serve at whatever level despite access to power. Jackson Mthembu was exceptional.

I've hugged a woman and felt the love and warmth we share in my womb. One of the most powerful experiences I've had in this short life I've lived. It always takes me back to Audre Lorde on the Power of the Erotic.
