#OTD Oxford Street Friday, 17 September 1965. All three shops, Mansfield, Richard Shops and Lyons have all disappeared. An old Austin/Morris 1100, FX4 taxi and Ford Thames van were still on the road.

Terrific warm-up gig by Big Big Train last night, for The Likes of Us tour. The new songs sound amazing, the multiple changes of instrument and position by each musician made for a really dynamic show. Great to see so many friends, especially those still drying out from Loreley.

Sad to say I missed the death of lyricist Will Jennings on 6th Sept. My Heart Will Go On, Up Where We Belong; yes; but he also wrote most of the best Steve Winwood songs from 1980 onwards. While You See A Chance, Roll With It, Higher Love and the gorgeous Back in the High Life.🙏

Do you think Johnny Marr and David Gilmour have a support group for guitarists with hideous ex-bandmates? Swapping anecdotes, legal advice and rejected reunion offers over tea and biscuits.

Right you lot. “Why doesn’t he play the kids?” Let’s 🙏 that we don’t find out why. This looks a great young side. #COYS

If it’s Thursday it must be Big Big Train in Whitley Bay. The fantastic new Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks album is on its third time round and sounding glorious. As is the new matthew caws, Moon Mirror. Now there’s a band which always makes me happy🙏 135 miles in, 166 to go

Ruben Selles on Reading FC sale “We’ve had enough”. “I’m not a person that likes to quit- but I’m not happy with anything that’s happened”. “I don’t know what is truth and what is not”. He was absolutely fuming in the Reading FC press conference today.

Trenchers, Spanish City, Whitley Bay. OAP Chippy Tea. Haddock & Chips, mushy peas, homemade tartare sauce and a 3-cup pot of tea. £12.95 all in. Not only a great deal but the best fish & chips I’ve ever had.
