A thoughtful, profound, and even-handed look at what the COVID crisis meant & what lessons we can draw for our science, politics & society. Required reading. Bravo Stephen Macedo & Frances Lee press.princeton.edu/books/hardcove…

Must read. Among other things, a frank discussion of how the Laptop Class championed policies—lockdowns and school closures—that primarily impacted the Have Nots, while the Haves enjoyed remote work, online shopping, booming stock portfolios, and groceries delivered by the poor.

Finding effective ways to prevent & treat pain during cesarean delivery is a key way that pragmatic trials can make care better. I recently shared some thoughts in Anesthesia&Analgesia about how we help maximize the benefit of such trials for our patients: journals.lww.com/anesthesia-ana…

‘We found pain during cesarean delivery under neuraxial anesthesia to be very common, affecting more than one in six patients.’ It is important to see this statement in print. 1/4 doi.org/10.1097/ALN.00…

How common is pain during cesarean under neuraxial? Our review, published in Anesthesiology showed it to be v common, overall 17% (95%CI: 13% – 22%. Spinal anesthesia had the lowest pooled incidence of 14% (95%CI: 10% – 20% Epidural top-up highest of 33% (95%CI: 17% - 54%

Great discussion of issues around MCID for study planning. One can reach markedly different conclusions about what constitutes the smallest relevant effect based on whether the trial purpose is for drug/device approval or policy making vs informing patient choice.
