On Monday, the crew of the M/V Hatteras received NCDOT's "Extra Mile Award", as well as official commendations from the U.S. Coast Guard for their heroic rescue of two fishermen and a dog from an overturned boat in Hatteras Inlet on January 12. We couldn't be more proud of them!

June 1 marks the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, and the experts say it'll be a busy one. We hope they're wrong, of course, but now is the time to prepare. The NC Ferry System is ready to help if you need us, from evacuation before the storm to recovery efforts after it.

Tropical Storm Debby's winds are causing some ferry routes to temporarily suspend operations: our Pamlico Sound Routes and the Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach route are currently suspended, and the Ocracoke Express Passenger ferry will suspend after the 3pm run from Ocracoke. #ncwx

The tropical system that came ashore yesterday is affecting several roadways leading to our terminals at Southport and Ocracoke, and thus ferry service between Southport-Fort Fisher and Hatteras-Ocracoke are currently suspended until further notice.

While the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry route remains suspended due to unsafe road conditions, our ferries there are helping move NCDOT crews and equipment into place to repair damaged roads and bridges.

The Southport-Fort Fisher ferry has resumed service. Please be patient. The ferry is essential to our ongoing emergency response effort as it provides critical access to Southport. Unless your needs are urgent, please refrain from using the ferry to allow for a faster recovery.

Yesterday, we officially christened our two newest ferries, the M/V Avon and the M/V Salvo, into our fleet at the Cherry Branch ferry terminal. The two new vessels are part of a larger effort to upgrade and modernize our fleet. Fair winds and calm seas to the Avon and Salvo!
