How it started ➡️ How it's going! We are standing on the shoulders of giants this #WomensEqualityDay as we celebrate the heroic Women@NASA who blazed the trail for all women that followed their footsteps in discovery and exploration.
Do you ever wonder how self-flying aircraft learn about their environment to avoid hazards? 🚁 NASA Aeronautics researchers recently developed a camera pod with sensors to help with this challenge by advancing computer vision for autonomous aviation. 🔗: go.nasa.gov/471iXta
There's always something happening in the Vehicle Assembly Building! Teams are currently outfitting the VAB's High Bay 2 for future vertical assembly of the rocket stage that will help power the NASA Artemis campaign to the Moon. More: go.nasa.gov/3Z4hArM
We're going on an adventure! The massive Apollo 17 rocket left the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center #OTD in 1972 and rolled out to the launchpad for the final crewed flight to the Moon. What the Apollo 17 astronauts were up to that summer: go.nasa.gov/4cJGlg6
Teams at NASA's Kennedy Space Center have been updating High Bay 2 to allow for vertical assembly of the SLS core stage beginning with #Artemis III. All major structures for the core stage will continue to be produced and manufactured at Michoud Assembly Facility. 🔗go.nasa.gov/4g3EYMk
24 Hours ⏩ 2 Minutes! Get a behind-the-scenes look at the assembly of NASA Europa Clipper! One of the main objectives during this time period was to install & test the spacecraft’s massive solar arrays, which are needed to travel the 1.8 BILLION-mile journey to meet up with Jupiter.
40 years ago: Discovery’s maiden voyage Space shuttle Discovery soars away from Launch Pad 39A #OTD in 1984, beginning its maiden voyage and a storied spaceflight career that spanned more than 26 years. The on-time liftoff was 8:42am ET. Discovery now calls National Air and Space Museum home.
#Crew9 launch update: NASA Astronauts Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will fly to International Space Station as commander and mission specialist, respectively, as part of a two-crew member flight aboard a SpaceX Dragon. Liftoff targeted NET Sept. 24 from Space Launch
Welcome to Florida! The European Space Agency European Service Module for the the upcoming NASA Artemis III mission has arrived to the Space Coast.
MEDIA: Accreditation is open for the NASA Europa Clipper mission launch to Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa! NASA and SpaceX are targeting a launch period opening Oct. 10 atop a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A. Apply by Sept. 27: go.nasa.gov/4gemHf5
