Ogden Lucsik of Burbank just cleared 14-8 in the pole vault. He’s going to attempt to break his own school record of 15-1.

Jeff Nelson’s 8:36.3 in 1979 was for 2 miles (yards track) at UCLA. The conversion is 8:33.4 for 3,200. The best time Rich Gonzalez this weekend for 3,200 was 8:34.96. There were seven under 8:40. But nobody got close to Nelson for several decades.

What is so bizarre is that for years so many boys distance runners could not get under 9 minutes, chase the national record of Burbank’s Jeff Nelson. Now all of a sudden we have a wave. Across all heats at the Rich Gonzalez there were 69 that went sub-9.
