Powdery mildew starting to appear in barley crops in Victoria. Keep an eye out as it can develop rapidly where conditions are favourable.

Our Barley net blotch fungicide timing experiments may become water logging experiments if the rain keeps coming.

Rockstar wheat without fungicide compared to one fungicide within first week of stripe rust being detected. A good example of how important fungicide timing can be for stripe rust control.

Assessing our Barley leaf rust nursery near Horsham. This season has produced plenty of inoculum and am now getting the best data on variety reaction response.

Stripe rust now found at FAR Australia Crop Technology Centres in southern Victoria (Winchelsea) cv Rockstar GS30 and in the lower south east SA (Millicent) cv DS Bennett and Big Red at tillering.FAR Australia GRDC

Sowing is well underway with a paddock each of winter cover crop mix, oat and barley sown on the hill country. Hoping for some rain before tackling the heavier flat country.

The cover crop has somehow found enough moisture to germinate. Good effort I reckon.

Swamp wallabies are regular residents on our farm now that we have fenced and revegetated our waterways. Last month we had a family of five move through which was lovely to see.

Another frosty one this morning at -5C for second day in a row. Our sheep are looking for their wooly jumpers. Very much looking forward to a few drops of rain tomorrow to freshen things up.

The crops are finally starting to get going after a dry start to the season. Getting some foliar fertilisers on them to hopefully put out more tillers.

The winter cover crop is really starting to take off after a slow start. Plenty of diversity and something is really getting stuck into the marshmallows.
