Leaving the Irish Daily Mirror after 27 years of living the dream from Tehran to Saipan. Was so fortunate to cover five Olympics, five rugby World Cups and, yes, that very uneventful 2002 World Cup. Made brilliant friends along the way. A sad day but I'm excited for what's next.

The nature of a sports journalist on the road is your rivals are also your companions & friends. Otherwise, it would be a lonely existence. I shared a lot of trips (and even beds) with these men. I wouldn't recommend the latter but I hope neither is lost to the industry.
