⛈️This is the first supercell in 2025 that was captured by our weather radar in Porto Alegre yesterday. According to radar data, this supercell was accompanied probably by large hail up to 5 cm in diameter. 📡

📡We are often asked about the range of our radar. Here, you can see that the radar in Tonga can detect echoes over SE Fiji. ➡️This highlights the possibility of creating a composite radar network in the Pacific using our solar-powered radar. The measured distance is 439 km.

When people talk about AI in meteorology, they often think of nowcasting. But AI can do much more! One example is beam blockage filling - a method to restore partially blocked radar scans. 🎥 In the video: CAPPI vs. CAPPI with AI-based beam blockage filling. See the difference!

Thunderstorms in Rio Grande do Sul yesterday reached heights of over 15 km, with some being almost 20 km high. Picture below shows echoes 126 km from the radar at 7.8° elevation, meaning middle of the beam is at 18 km. Highest echo we detected was at over 20.5 kilometers.

Vertical cross section of a weak squall line that was led mainly by a cold pool from strong downbursts in environments with small low-level wind shear. This is a nice illustration of the RKW theory. This storm was captured by our weather radar in Porto Alegre on 15th February.

Seeing how the USA now hellbent on emulating their newfound ally of Russia, both at home and abroad, I find myself obliged to repost my dive into Russia's posh cities, just to give your average MAGA a glimpse into the greatness Trump is sure to bring about! Do enjoy!🧵

🌩️The third supercell captured by our weather radar on Saturday evening south of Toulouse exhibited very pronounced rotation. The strongest rotation in the mesocyclone was observed at an altitude between 2 and 3 km. Data from our weather radar in Toulouse, France.📡

🌪️Read about the first tornado of 2025 in the Czech Republic 📷—a weak case on May 18. Though undocumented visually, eyewitness reports, tree damage, and radar data (hook echo & mesocyclone) suggest it. blog.meteopress.com/czech-republic…

⛈️Several very severe supercells, primarily accompanied by large hail and severe wind gusts, occurred in France on Wednesday. Our weather radar in Toulouse captured two impressive supercells, which can be seen in detail through vertical cross-sections.📡

One of the supercells in southern France last week produced hailstones up to 10 cm in diameter. The storm tracked over 200 km before dissipating.

📡Today, our meteorologists captured a notable storm near Pardubice, Czechia, using our mobile X-band weather radar. Mobile weather radars offer higher resolution than standard radars, allowing meteorologists to better localize and forecast the severe weather phenomena in storms.
