Tatiana also presented her poster in a short oral talk at the 15th Biometal conference, and impressed the committee so much that she was additionally bestowed with an Oral Presentation Award. Our heartiest congratulations! ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich, biodegradablemetals.org (3/6)
Heartiest congratulations go to Tatiana Akhmetshina for being awarded a Poster Prize (first place) at the 15th Biometal Conference on August 21-27 in Cetraro, Italy! See details at biodegradablemetals.org; ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich (2/6)
With the end of the summer approaching, it is our great pleasure to list the various honors and awards that members of our Metal Physics @ ETH Zurich Laboratory ETH Department of Materials ETH Zurich have recently received. (1/6)
In @MaterialsToday, we unravel the origin of the Invar effect in Fe-based bulk metallic glasses: it occurs universally and is solely controlled by the magnetic interactions within the disordered Fe network. See doi.org/10.1016/j.mtna…; ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich, European Synchrotron
In a recent Acta_Materialia work, we suggest pathways to overcome the "475 °C embrittlement" in Fe-Cr alloys, which are of high importance towards the development of structural materials for future fusion reactors. See doi.org/10.1016/j.acta…; ETH Department of Materials, ETH Laboratory for Nanometallurgy, ETH Zurich
Congratulations to Alexander Firlus, who just graduated Metal Physics @ ETH Zurich, ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich with his doctoral thesis on “The atomic-scale origins of the Invar effect in Fe-based bulk metallic glasses.” An impressive work in the area of disordered magnetic materials. Well done!
Heartiest congratulations to Andrea Rich for being awarded the Best Presentation Prize for her talk on amorphous Mg-fiber reinforced bone cement at the recent Bioceramics 2023 conference in Solothurn, Switzerland! See details at bioceramics33.org; ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich
Another turbulent and special year will end very soon. LMPT wishes you a happy New Year 2024, with lots of joy, good health, progress to peace, and great personal and professional achievements! Metal Physics @ ETH Zurich, ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich
And in doi.org/10.1016/j.jma.…, we improve the corrosion resistance and mechanical integrity of bioresorbable Mg implants via graphene–calcium carbonate coating, a great collaboration between Monash University, CSIRO, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and ETH Department of Materials; JMA, KeAi Publishing (4/4)
Our work in doi.org/10.1016/j.matd… involves numerical modeling of metallic glass crystallization kinetics induced by additive manufacturing, which is a further great collaboration between Roland Logé’s group EPFL and our metal physics laboratory ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich (3/4)
In doi.org/10.1016/j.jmat…, we study the effects of laser-beam shaping on copper-steel interfaces in multi-material additive manufacturing, via an inspiring Swiss-wide collaboration between D-MAVT, ETH Zurich of ETH Zurich, ETH Department of Materials, PSI Paul Scherrer Institut, and EPFL (2/4)
Announcing a few recently published papers: In our The Journal of Physical Chemistry work, we study potential beam damage in materials by combining in situ fast calorimetry with synchrotron X-ray diffraction at doi.org/10.1021/acs.jp…; ACS Publications, ETH Zurich, ETH Department of Materials, Montanuniversität Leoben (1/4)
Congratulations to Viktor Wessely, who just graduated Metal Physics @ ETH Zurich, ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich with his doctoral thesis on “Advancing aluminum alloys through tailored multiphase precipitation: a mechanistic understanding at the nanoscale.” A great work on high-strength Al alloys!
In doi.org/10.1002/adfm.2…, we present a new method of correlative 3D ptychographic X-ray computed tomography and analytical electron microscopy to quantitatively image magnesium biodegradation and mimic related in-situ conditions. @AdvSciNews, ETH Department of Materials, ETH Zurich, PSI Paul Scherrer Institut
