Only one copy of Tacitus' Germania survived, which had been copied in the Carolingian Renaissance. Ovid was also a hit in Charlemagne's court iirc.

Memorial in France at the base of Montségur. In 1244 on the 16th of March about 210-215 Cathars were burned alive on a pyre. Unrepentant in their faith it is said they mounted the pyre voluntarily. The site is now called the “Field of the Burned.”
