Israel is destroying Gaza: its beautiful people, its beautiful cats, its cows and its chickens, even its olive trees. Israel is starving the life out of every living being in the Gaza strip. It is committing the crime of all crimes.

Speaking of normalized and dulled, I really think that Judith Butler hit the nail on the head with the term "grievable". Some bodies - some people - are seen as fully formed people, as grievable, and some are seen as already potentially dead and hence ungrievable

Shame on you!

a pile of massacred children in hospitals, refugee tents and schools didn’t move the world leaders as a much as a celebrity chanting against the ones responsible did. What a sick twisted world

‘What disturbs you the most about the Glastonbury chants?’ ‘They get more attention than the genocide of Gazans.’ Journalist rachel shabi, who is Jewish, weighs in on the fallout of Bob Vylan’s controversial performance.

So we’ve reached the point where Israel offs 100 ppl a day, mostly as they seek food, which it blockaded. And no one treats this as news. And we’re not allowed to update the death toll because that would be antisemitic, just like hating the army doing this. I’m losing my mind.

I'm a broken record on this topic, but the case of Israel is really interesting because it shows in a particularly clear way how wrong the traditional model of the interplay between propaganda, public opinion and policy is, especially the idea that propaganda requires literal

in class this week I summarized Saïd's "Orientalism" by comparing it to AI: "you know how AI content is getting worse because it's now being trained based on its own output? that's how the West creates stereotypes about the Orient and teaches itself about its own superiority."

I just have a hard time believing that a global social and political order that has not yet reproduced itself across a single human generation and is showing significant signs of strain as it begins to do so is all that robust to volatility as you all seem to think. An intuition

I have not been a member of any political party since 1981. Today, myself at 81, I paid up and joined the party without a name. Hope others, oldies, not-so-oldies and their children and grandchildren will do the same.
