🔥 James Carpenter, 3 Feb 2021 🔥 The way statisticians write methods papers is 1. Work out a neat idea 2. Run a dodgy simulation study to show it works better than an existing method 3. Present an example where it makes no difference

MA released a bunch of vaccination slots today, and I tracked how many appointments were available throughout the day (starting at lunch time). Amazing day bias! Sooner better, of course, but still thousands available later in the week even after several hours. Here's Fenway:

This is THE most comprehensive human genomic sequence data you can find today. Perhaps more importantly, it is public like the 1000 Genomes data. NHGRI and HPRC have worked hard to make this happen.

I am delighted to share our preprint on nucleoli formation (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…). We found that the chromatin network can slow down the kinetics of phase separation and stabilize a multiple-droplet state.

Excited to share our new method for untangling 3D genome structure in cancer, published Nature Methods. NeoLoopFinder can automatically resolve complex SVs, assemble local genome, reconstruct Hi-C maps, and identify hijacked enhancers for oncogenes. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Congratulations to Ayush Raman, Elias Orouji, Kunal Rai and team! Their paper on enhancer-defined subtypes of colorectal cancer with therapeutic implications is out in Gut: gut.bmj.com/content/early/…

Here is another very exciting preprint, where we presented unfolded chromatin configurations under tension and crowding. We found that the zig-zag fibril structure breaks into nucleosome clutches, resembling those reported by in vivo experiments. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Wow! I am honored to be in the company of amazing #ForbesUnder30 honorees. I could not have made it this far without the support of awesome mentors, peers, and friends. Check out our awesome cohort here: forbes.com/30-under-30/20…

We've been exploring the new #T2T human genome assembly compared to previous versions (our news and views article is out today, link below). Some observations: (1) Its pretty amazing what the human genome project was able to do in 2004: large-scale gene order is totally conserved

📣 Excited to share our latest work, in which we set out to reconstitute #3Dgenome folding in vitro to get more insight into the underlying mechanisms. Summary of our surprising findings below! 1/7 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
