The North West Cricket Union season starts tomorrow and it will be another landmark occasion for our club as we field two teams for the first time. Our first XI face Newbuildings at home and our second XI travel to Killyclooney. Let's make some memories!

A day to remember for our second XI last Saturday with a win in their first ever game at Killyclooney. Many vital contributions were made but special mention to Steve Pratt for scoring 52* in guiding us to victory.

The first XI fared less well with a heavy defeat to Newbuildings. The lads will be keen to bounce back tomorrow at Brigade! Meanwhile, the 2nd XI are hoping to produce back to back wins as they welcome Bready to Rainey.

Results update since last post: The first XI lost to Brigade (A), beat Ballyspallen (H) and lost to North Fermanagh (H). The second XI have lost three games to Bready (H), Letterkenny (A) and Donemana (H).

Results not quite going our way but thrilled to be giving so many the opportunity to play cricket. Fielding two teams for the first time in our history has been a real success thus far and plenty more enthusiasts waiting in the wings with midweek action set to commence this week.

Saturday marks the beginning of another cricket season and we've been putting in the work! Five indoor sessions at Magherafelt High School got us off to a great start before the clocks moved forward and we were able to move outside.

Unfortunately, the weather has prevented us from playing any games but that has not dampened our enthusiasm. Under the watchful eye of our new coach, Benji Cathcart, all players are keen to learn and bring success to MCC this year.

Earlier this month, Meadowbank Sports Arena hosted the 'Festival of Cricket' for a second time. After last year's success, we were delighted to welcome a number of visiting teams and also take the opportunity to introduce kids to the sport for the first time. A super day!

Our first XI got their league campaign underway last Saturday with defeat to Killyclooney. Chasing 223, our opponents won with six overs to spare. Aaron Stewart top scored for Maghera with 94. Next up, the first XI host North Fermanagh while the second XI travel to Newbuildings.

A free weekend for Maghera but last Saturday was one to remember with both teams winning on the same day for the first time. Reward for all the hard work that's going on behind the scenes to drive the club forward.

The second XI travelled to County Fermanagh to face Erne and came away with a 37 run victory. John Andrews scored his first 50 for the club and Glenn Baird chipped in with three wickets.

The first XI beat St Johnston by 229 runs with both Aaron Stewart and Matthew Caulfield hitting centuries. The latter's score particularly impressive considering it was his first game back after an enforced absence from the game. Class is permanent!

It's with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of club member, Richard Purvis. Our hearts are broken. Both games tomorrow have been postponed as a mark of respect for our dear friend.

First tweet in a while but there's plenty of good news to report! The second XI are having a tremendous season and currently sit top of League 5. Charlie Mainwaring and Aaron Service have scored unbeaten half centuries in recent wins - their first time doing so for Maghera.

The first XI have also been in good form, winning three of our last four games. The highlight undoubtedly being Jamie Reid's 100 not out in a thrilling win at Ballyspallen. Jamie is getting the rewards for working hard at his game this year and we believe the best is yet to come!

A proud moment in our club's history as the second XI secure the league title after being formed just last year. Congratulations to all involved!
