So very tired of the phrase “On the same page” in work calls and e-mails that I’m considering some creative alternatives: “Tuned in to the same channel”; “Coloring with the same crayons”; “Bushwhacking in the same forest”…. Any suggestions? Help me out, #WritingCommunity 😅

Freelancers! It's only 5 weeks til the start of the new financial year and I am begging you to put an afternoon aside to reappraise your rates for the new year—based not on undercutting yourself (and others) to get work, but based on what an actual living pay rate is.

Yes! It’s great to see higher starting salaries and greater salary transparency in the industry but it can’t stop there. Editorial freelancers are still so woefully underpaid by most publishers. Nothing will ever change unless we keep making noise about this.

Talking to a freelance friend yesterday (different industry) who said companies aren’t allowed to dictate freelancer rates, as that would make you a disguised employee. Is publishing the only industry where freelancers don’t get to set their own rates??
