Day One in Nairobi. Friday market day has got us 2 hours behind from reaching our first school. The scenery and people make it worth it.

We made it! What an amazing day meeting with our newest One Girl Can university scholarship recipients and mentoring 2 grade 10 high school classes at Misyani Girls School in Kenya.

Writing #IWant2Be messages on the hands of all our new university scholarship winners in each of our 8 schools is a great way to get to know them and feel their excitement.

Another wonderful day in Kenya connecting with the girls in our high schools and teaching them how to achieve their dreams through goal-setting.

35 highly marginalized girls from the Kibera slums just learned that they’ve received full scholarships for high school. They created a song and dance for me and insisted I dance with them. I assured them most white girls can’t dance. They found that hilarious, but true.

The marvel of outdated technology is not lost on these girls living in one of the poorest regions near Kenya’s coast. My Fuji camera is a sure-fire icebreaker that leaves treasured memories behind.
