Despite the biblical weather a great afternoon Berwick LitFest listening to Alistair Moffat. And couldn’t resist a new book. Warming up after a soaking with coffee and the lovely festival venue in sight. Ready for Katie Hale - novelist & poet 🌈 event tomorrow at Berwick Parish Centre.

Book twenty-three is Ian McEwan’s Atonement. Took a while but glad I have read it! Read for work but enjoyed it! #AmReading

Book twenty-four of 2024 is a real privilege to have read. Katie Hale - novelist & poet 🌈 new manuscript, before it heads out into the world. And it’s beautiful, and haunting. #AmReading (in our half term holiday home.)

Last night Katie Hale - novelist & poet 🌈 and I conducted “Horrible History” tours around the village to raise money for the local hospice. Safe to say we had a great night AND got some very odd looks in the local afterwards.

The same National Literacy Trust research shows that “Nearly twice as many children and young people who read comics in their free time told us that they enjoy reading compared with those who didn’t read comics in their free time (58.6% vs. 33.1%).” It is time to invest in comics/GNs.

Peak village tonight. Pub landlord setting off incredible fireworks to the absolute thrill and joy of all the kids, who spontaneously yelled “thank you” as the display finished. And then a pork roast and chips for a fiver.

I don’t know if it’s because I have listened in one giant catch up but I rather enjoyed the bonkers Scrooge story in #TheArchers alongside the inevitable emergence of George the hardened con

Book twenty-six of 2024 was largely read in the bath as I recovered from some sort of slipped disc. This is how you lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. Not my usual fare. Beautifully written but I’m not sure I got enough of the references!

Book twenty-seven of 2024 is the magnificent The Company of Owls by Polly Atkin with its stunning cast of Cumbrian wildlife. And wonderfully strange to remember almost all of the events playing out and then reading about them years later. #AmReading

Book twenty-eight of 2024. A very satisfying morning of research. Finally read the whole of Essex Cholmondeley’s biography of Charlotte Mason. What a woman! I think I’ve researched all the info elsewhere but it was still great. #AmReading
