I am pleased that CERF - The UN's emergency fund has allocated $3 million to support Namibia’s drought response. This funding will provide vital humanitarian support for around 164,000 people. We are proud to be the largest contributor to CERF, and will continue to do all we can to save lives.

The famine facing Sudan is entirely man-made. The warring parties must remember their obligations under International Humanitarian Law and do everything in their power to ensure that this wholly unjustified war ends immediately.

The arrest warrant for Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez is unacceptable and politically motivated. The UK joins the international community in calling for the repression and harassment to stop. Dialogue must begin to ensure the will of Venezuelans is respected.

I welcome the recent announcements of the release of political prisoners in Belarus.  However, almost 1400 political prisoners remain unjustly detained. I call for their immediate and unconditional release.
