New podcast episode out tomorrow! It's on Miss Buss & Miss Beale, Victorian pioneers of girls' education. They founded famous schools, argued for girls to take exams & invented the term head mistress. Were they as stern as in these photos? Listen & find out!

Latest Lessons from History is on school absenteeism. But we also talk about the heyday of local government, when infrastructure projects came in under budget & ahead of schedule & the surplus was spent on statues celebrating local government. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/abs…

Daisy Christodoulou My Gran failed French in 1934 as part of her school certificate despite doing well in the others. Officially she left school with no qualifications. She often talked about how unfair the system was.

Great you have got this out there, Daisy. I loved the conversations we had about this seminal Act. Can hardly believe it’s 80 years ago…which makes my book about it 30 years ago!
