A3: I ask specific questions about our systems and structures and the real implication it has on teacher work. Doing this periodically with teams and 1:1 throughout the year allow time to respond to it, building trust. #ELMagChat

A5: I struggle with feedback that is a “tell” and do better through interactive dialogue where a mentor or coach guides me to next steps through questions or considerations. #ELMagChat

A6: keeping it focused on the work and the desired outcomes helps make it less personal, especially important when it comes to critical feedback. #ELMagChat

My son made these jars and filled them with candy for his teachers as an appreciation gift. He’s so excited to deliver them tomorrow!

I can’t stop thinking about this and what it means for the kids we teach. How do we talk about them? How do we view them? Do we recognize our own role in the environment we are creating for them? I’m thinking of little people as trees now. 🌲 🌳 🌲

Start from what the child DOES know and move along the expected continuum of learning progression to develop new skill application. Positive acknowledgment of what a child CAN DO is key!

As a mother, this mindset can be tough. Sometimes it’s just easier to “take care of it”, right? But as an educator, I know that accountability is fostered by learning from mistakes. Letting them “fail safely” leads to more growth and maturity in the long run.

I love all things MTSS, especially creating the system in which kids can THRIVE! Building the successful MTSS system Boone Meadow Elem. with teacher leaders and support staff has been one of the highlights in my educational career so far!

According C Dweck, ppl are driven by either performance or learning goals. With performance goals, people are motivated to show they have a valued attribute, like intelligence or leadership. When learning goals dominate, they are motivated to develop the attribute. (post 1/2)

Performance goals induce people to favor tasks that make them look good over tasks that help them learn. A shift toward learning will make managers more open to exploring opportunities to acquire knowledge from others. (2/2)
