Excited to see our Centaur project out in nature. TL;DR: Centaur is a computational model that predicts and simulates human behavior for any experiment described in natural language.

Thrilled to see our TinyRNN paper in @nature! We show how tiny RNNs predict choices of individual subjects accurately while staying fully interpretable. This approach can transform how we model cognitive processes in both healthy and disordered decisions. doi.org/10.1038/s41586…

Does vision training change how language is represented and used in meaningful ways?🤔 The answer is a nuanced yes! Comparing VLM-LM minimal pairs, we find that while the taxonomic organization of the lexicon is similar, VLMs are better at _deploying_ this knowledge. [1/9]

📢 I'm looking for a postdoc to join my lab at NYU! Come work with me on a principled, theory-driven approach to studying language, learning, and reasoning, in humans and AI agents. Apply here: apply.interfolio.com/170656 And come chat with me at #CogSci2025 if interested!

This is amazing software for running behavioral studies that the Gureckis lab has been working hard on, and is a successor to the popular psiTurk. Check it out!

John has some nice new results showing that some frontier models do worse on our safety benchmark than their predecessors. Take a look!

Check out this neat video describing a recent collaboration with Griffiths Computational Cognitive Science Lab! We find that chain-of-thought prompting can harm LLM performance in some of the same cases where explaining or explicit verbal reasoning harms *human* performance. Our ICML paper also linked below...

New preprint picks up Wai Keen Vong's work on training neural nets from a single child's input, now replicated with two more SAYCam children and three architectures! The similarities are stronger than the differences. arxiv.org/abs/2507.14749

Compositionality and planning: maybe not quite solved yet (g.co/gemini/share/3… if anyone is curious about the actual prompt, in which there was no attempt to trick the model or anything)

Friends and virtual acquaintances! I’m defending my PhD tomorrow morning at 11:30 AM ET. If anyone would like to watch, let me know and I’ll send you the Zoom link (and if you’re in NYC and feel compelled to join in person, that works, too!)
