I will never understand teachers who don’t assign the Canon If students are not exposed to Chaucer, Shakespeare, Homer, Dickens, Virgil, Dante, Austen, Twain, then when will they be exposed to this great literature? Are they just supposed to stumble upon it in their 30s?

AI is going to make everything online suspect - videos, pictures, "facts", are all questionable. Sadly, many will accept what they see without looking for verification.

Children need to learn boundaries and discipline from adults whose role it is to help them form good habits of mind and body. Shirking this responsibility in the name of “kindness” at home and at school was a tremendous mistake and has led to unfortunate outcomes for our society.

If your school is celebrating because they adopted “the science of reading” but they’re still all in on inquiry/project-based learning in math, science, & social studies it’s time to stop the celebration. Students learn best when they’re explicitly taught in ALL subjects.

The fastest way to kill academic standards is to make them optional. And that’s exactly what late policies, retake policies, and “grace-based” grading have done.

Schools: we’re so bold! We’re banning cell phones so students & teachers can finally get focused instruction & learning time! Also schools: we’re so innovative! We’re issuing every student a Chromebook that will be the main source of input & output. It’s so exhausting.
