The #PayEquityFund is an achievement that the District govt should be proud of and prioritize in its FY26 budget. In its first year it had an impressive 23% ROI and grew the workforce by 7%. We hope Mayor Bowser fully funds the program and continues to lead the country in ECE.

When I wrote this bill with Vince Gray, DC was setting a standard for the rest of the US to follow. The #PayEquityFund works. Any attempt to defund it would be disastrous for educators, the families who rely on childcare & DC's economy. We cannot afford to go backward.

As a member of both the DC Council Pay Equity Taskforces 1&2 that created and worked to protect & now that I work nationally on early education and childcare, I cite DC as beacon of hope for other early childhood educators to aspire to. This would devastate educators & families.

The House CR has lots of problems, but a big one is that it restricts how the District of Columbia spends its OWN money. This doesn't save a single federal tax dollar—it just treats DC residents like pawns. It's undemocratic and un-American. I will fight it on the Senate floor.
