Kailen spent 43 days at BCCH when he was first born and 30 days in ICU. In this video he is being passed to me after he was taken off the ventilator. He had so many complications after his open heart surgery that it took a really long time. #CHDAwarenessWeek childrens_heart

Medication is a big part of a lot of CHD kids. Kailen is currently still on 1 medication but nothing compared to the 7 we had to administer in his first year. Scott is giving K his blood thinner through a port in his leg. We did this 2x a day for 6 months. #CHDAwarenessWeek

4 years ago, I was supposed to visit @Crofton_House to talk about MIDDLE SCHOOL MATTERS. Cue the pandemic. After giving 2 virtual talks in recent years, I finally made it to Vancouver! Loved meeting students, faculty & parents in person & talking about MIDDLE SCHOOL SUPERPOWERS!

On this day in 1944, Dr. Alfred Blalock, Dr. Helen Taussig, and surgical technician Vivien Thomas performed the first-ever surgery to treat the #CHD, Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The surgery became known as the BTT shunt, honoring the medical staff.
