No one ever learned to read from a minilesson. That’s what our phonics lessons, small group, and individual conferences are for. Lizzie Hetzer #tcrwp #kellerliteracy

Lucy Calkins reminds us that this year, "We will muddle through things together. We'll imagine next year together. We'll work to hold onto our values, despite the pressure to do otherwise, together. We'll come out the other side, ready to reshape a future." #TCRWP

Today in PLC, a colleague described how she keeps a spread sheet of things that happen on screen. Like a cat walks across the screen. Instead of chiding the student, she records, “Student has a cat. Ask its name later.” That tiny little move is about relationship now and later.

22 Rowland Schools K classes started our year w/Shared Stories, Shared Voices Unit by @MrazKristine. Each week, we co-create books that are then copied, bound, and mailed to every single student! We want our kids to see themselves in the 1st instructional material they receive❤️

I am hopeful for our future after using Qs from @Jess5th with my class. Ss thought it was important to discuss rules and make sure they're fair to everybody. They knew that some rules benefit certain groups of people. To be continued..

Over scaffolding is the enemy of agency. We need to help students be comfortable with their approximations in writing, (and make sure we're comfortable with their approximations) to make sure we don't unintentionally reduce students ownership and decision making.
