In addition to all the eruption news (Iceland! Pacaya! Soufrière!), IAVCEI will be hosting a #webinar about Mt #Etna on 12 Apr 2021 at 17:00 CET (UTC+1). Must be a paid #IAVCEI member. Register here: us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regist…

Still sorting through field photos and daa from yesterday, so here is a nice bloop from yesterday. This is spatter flying from a vent which is beneath an active lava channel! #Geldingadalir

Getting the most recent three #Geldingadalir lava samples dissolved for trace elements! The recent erupted lavas may show some interesting chemical variations that we need to verify. Stay tuned! #cleanlab #geochemistry

Really cool animation showing how much the lava in #Fagradalsfjall has grown since it started just over a month ago! #eruption From Veðurstofa Íslands / Icelandic Met Office using data from Háskóli Íslands, Landmælingar Íslands and the Icelandic Institute of Natural History

Today was another successful trip with the #Volcanology Research Group of University of Iceland to the #Geldingadalir #eruption site. At 14.15, a huge spillover broke out from the lava channel of the youngest vents. This provided a great opportunity to sample fresh lava from the area.

New updates on our favourite lava from Geochemistry and Petrology Group @ Uni. Iceland! 🌋 the lava is becoming chemically enriched over time, which is best explained by melts derived from deeper in the mantle. I'm feeling very lucky to be part of this and getting to study this, the coolest of eruptions 👩‍🔬

Spectacular performance by Vent 5 at the #Geldingadalir eruption site this morning (27.04.2021). Unsustained fountaining has been ongoing since yesterday night whilst activity at all other vents has visibly decreased. #volcanology #eruption #Fagradalsfjall #Iceland

Nothing beats the evenings this time of year in Reykjavík as captured in this amazing photo from our very own Kristinn Ingvarsson. Right at the center is the University´s Main Building - a sharp contrast to the Snæfellsjökull Glacier in the background.

Might be the best day at the volcano to date. Sun and 50m fountaning 🌋 AND then we found tephra pieces the size of my fist - what's not to like? Tadaaa! Video by Edward W. Marshall

Poking the lava was one of the highlights. Thanks to Kate Gallagher and Rob Askew. Dispatch from the Field: Icelandic Volcanoes lpl.arizona.edu/news/2021/spri…

Here’s our most recent chemical analyses, alongside the other monitoring data. Our sampling has recorded continuing subtle changes in the lava composition.

Thinking of studying volcanoes or find the methods of understanding volcanic hazards or monitoring interesting? EuroVolc has some great videos now available on a YouTube channel, which were produced as part of the recent summer school hosted by Iceland. youtube.com/watch?v=rn9RLj…

Great example of lava levees in bottom left. Notice how the lava is moving fastest in the middle of the channel? Lava at the margin slows, cools and solidifies to form levees that help contain the flowing lava. The levees are built up by overspills from the channel.

We Veðurstofa Íslands / Icelandic Met Office and #IStremor have been occupied today with these.. Highly regular emergent lp (>3hz) 1 minute drumbeats originated in the #Torfajökull volcanic area.. (earthquake at the bottom is from Reykjanes peninsula). #Volcanomonitoring #drumbeats
