More evidence that cute often does not equal good dog welfare from Canine Science Forum. Today’s English bulldogs are a prime example - they have many systemic health and welfare issues, such problems with their skin, breathing, and eyes. Possibly widely known but worth repeating!
Starting the final day of the Canine Science Forum with fascinating research on free-ranging dogs in India. Love this research with such an interesting canine population!
Love this research presented today Canine Science Forum from Peter Sandøe and colleagues investing relationships between owner ethical orientation and the dog training method they choose. This provides further insight into why people opt to use one method over another.

More I learned from Peter Sandøe at @canineforum...Denmark has a very different problem to the US and the UK... ~2,000 dogs enter shelters annually and there’s a demand of 60k dogs per year.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Rubina Mondal at this year’s Canine Science Forum, and learned about her brillant research. I’m now mildly obsessed with collaborating with her!
Where will the Canine Science Forum be in 2025?! In the meantime, get ready for Canine Science Conference in Seattle in July 2024! I’ve just gotten word of somebody else who will be giving a plenary talk and I’m VERY much looking forward to that!
Check out this webinar if you need help with an unhappy multi-dog household! Tickets are by donation and help The Dog Rehoming Project achieve its mission. Please share!
A case study of mine has just been published on a shelter I worked with to overhaul their rehoming practices so that they’re based on scientific evidence. Immediate positive effects included increases in animal adoptions and decreases in staff workload! cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/10.1079/ab…
