For every doctor who said children were “safe from COVID”, every person demanding return to schools KNOWING studies show inadequate ventilation, for those pushing to remove masks, for proclaimers of “return to normalcy”… understand the risk YOU placed on the shoulders of BABIES.

A duo of autumn cakes for a friend who is moving and will miss Seattle’s fall colors this year. Spice cake, bourbon syrup, apple butter filling, and ginger-bourbon Swiss meringue buttercream. Did I repeat “happy little trees” to myself as I was piping the larches? I sure did!

Apple ginger semi-naked cake! I’m fine-tuning my spice cake recipe. This version has more spice and moisture, like a light version of gingerbread. Ginger frosting, apple filling, and a separate optional bourbon glaze. Dried apple and candied ginger for garnish. 😋

I took a break from cake today and instead made a trio of tarts. Pear frangipane with cardamom; tangy lemon with basil garnish; and chocolate hazelnut with hints of orange & brandy. Happy birthday(s), birthday peeps!

My kids have convinced themselves that this season’s popular beverage is a “pumpkin-sized latte.” 🤣

Is there anything on earth that fails as reliably and spectacularly than asking a small child to please hurry up?

If this cake doesn’t make you feel cozy, I’ll eat my hat! Decorated entirely with buttercream, piped one itty bitty line at a time.
