#OTD in 1992 Poland played Spain in the #Olympic gold medal game in Barcelona. The 100,000 fans at Estadio Nou Camp witnessed a 3-2 thriller that saw 🇪🇸 take the gold and 🇵🇱 silver. Was this the biggest match Poland has played after the fall of communism? In my opinion it is.

What could have been…#OTD in 1936 Poland lost its chance to play in the finals of the Berlin #Olympics. The 3-1 loss to Austria was played in front of 90,000 at the Olympiastadion. It was the biggest match to date in 🇵🇱 young #History. The team ended up taking 4th place overall.

In 2007 Groclin Dyskobolia was the last 🇵🇱 club to grace the famous Marakana in Belgrade. A 1-0 loss sealed their fate in the UEFA Cup. Adrian Sikora👇(good player) missed a few chances. Better finishing and a clean sheet likely required for #LechPoznan to advance in #UCL. #fkcz

WKS Śmigły Wilno (Vilnus)— named after Poland’s pre-war leader Marshal Edward Śmigły-Rydz — played just one #Ekstraklasa season (1938) before WWII. The military team was established by garrison officers in 1933. It was one of a handful of 🇵🇱 teams from the Eastern Borderlands.

Solid start to the season for Arka Gdynia. Its roots date back to interwar Poland’s signature infrastructure project which brought a port to what was a 🎣 village in Gdynia. In 79, Janusz Kupcewicz fired them to their 1st 🏆—before scoring for 🇵🇱 at the 82 #FIFAWorldCup. #GKSARK

#OTD in 1999, Poland fell 1–2 to Spain in a friendly under coach Janusz Wójcik. Tomasz Hajto’s👇opener couldn’t prevent a comeback. It was one of 6 goals in 62 caps for the central defender. At times controversial but Tomek Hajto always gave it his all for 🇵🇱. #łaczynaspiłka

Legia’s match with Hibernian FC is intriguing. From a historical lens one of the more famous clashes between 🇵🇱 and 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 clubs was Górnik Zabrze vs Glasgow Rangers in 1969. Górnik dominated 6-2 on aggregate. Can Legia cruise like the legends from decades ago? 🔥#UECL #HIBLEG

Radom is a city known for its ties to the Polish arms industry. It is also home to Radomiak Radom – among the oldest clubs in today’s #Ekstraklasa, founded in 1910. They reached the top flight in 1984/85👇 but were relegated after two seasons. Much better run this time! #GKSRAD
