The world was ~1.5°C warmer than pre-industrial levels over the past 12 months. To put it in 'scientific' terms: it sucked! If we succeed in holding average warming to 1.5°C, temps will exceed this level every other year. There's no time to waste bending global emissions down!

nature.com/articles/s4324… Research from Joeri Rogelj Robin Lamboll shows that without significant methane and non-CO2 mitigation, the 1.5C goal will come increasingly out of reach. Mitigating methane is the fastest, most efficient way to reduce temperature rise in the short term.
