Oh, a 3 month study concluded that putting stadiums in neighborhoods is better than putting stadiums in a sea of parking lots far away from where fans live. The Italian part of me that deeply understands the value of MIXED USE NEIGHBORHOODS is yelling at the Anglo part of me

Everyone wants to live within a walkable distance to a place like this, with a bakery, a butcher, a tailor, a bookstore, a barber, a cafe and various other businesses within walking distance. A farmer's market every weekend. Safe and free of criminals. Church bells. Schoolhouse.

“We shall build great cities and towns filled with shops, public parks, and housing options flexible enough to meet evolving needs. And then, a few hundred years later, we shall prohibit them through restrictive zoning.” “Why would we prohibit them, sir?” “Nobody knows.”

Creative urban infill is against the grain in EVERY way. If you are building a home: ☑️ without a garage? You are 4% of the market ☑️ less than 3 BR? You are 6% of the market ☑️ less than 2210 sf? You are less than half the market. #housing #urbanism #affordability

I’ll be in KC (actually Olathe) this weekend. Anything new and cool to check out, Kevin Klinkenberg ? Any new cottage courts or similar worth visiting?

We need to build 2BR/1BA units again As rowhomes, they are a perfect "Starter Home" for a young couple or family 1050 square feet

What’s one of the easiest ways to create affordable housing? Reducing minimum lot sizes. Houston did this in 1998 and reduced their minumum from 5,000sq ft to 1,400sq ft. The policy triggered a significant boom in infill development, including townhouses and small-lot homes.
