Kirksey said "there is no financial incentive to choose quality [programs]." "That choice means they will have little income while completing student teaching & then enter a profession where they can make the same starting salary as someone who's completely uncertified." #txlege

🚨 The Texas Senate has unanimously passed House Bill 2, the largest public education funding and teacher pay increase in Texas history! The historic, targeted reforms included in HB 2 will improve public education in our state for years to come and, most importantly, drive more

The Texas Legislature just passed the largest public education funding increase in Texas history. Thanks to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, Chairman Brandon Creighton, and Chairman Brad Buckley for their leadership. Texas is on a pathway to be #1 for education.

And just like that, HB 2—the House’s signature $8.5 billion in transformative public education funding & school finance reforms—has passed both chambers and is one step closer to becoming law. This is a major, historic win for Texas students, teachers, and families. I thank

Fantastic article by Talia Richman on the significant investment in teacher prep in TX. In many ways, this article touches on my journey as a researcher since coming back to TX. Every child deserves a high-quality teacher. This legislation is one giant step in making that happen.
