Yep. Text says: "I don't think anxiety about AI is really about AI at all. I think it's some white men's displaced anxiety upon realizing that women and people of color have, and have always had sentience, and are beginning to act on it on scales that they're unprepared for."

I remember the first time I interviewed someone when I was at Apple. She didn't make eye contact with me at all. She was only talking to the white man with me. (He complained later on to the rest of the team that she had nail polish & so he wasn't sure if she'd be "hands on").

How do we assess the moral capacities of artificial systems? One novel approach applies insights from developmental psychology to the grounded study of morality in AI. Work by Laura Weidinger, Madeline G. Reinecke is on bsky, and Julia Haas: dpmd.ai/dm-amc

I’ve been writing a blog post on collaboration in science – it’s long, but there’s a summary/TL;DR (and a TL;DR of the TL;DR), and some nice photos to look at, too: nadinespy.github.io/posts/2023/05/… Some bits on what it’s about (mostly points from the post’s summary): 1/13

if you’re confused about how large language models work this new animation from google deepmind should clear a lot of things up

Extremely excited to share our work on Generative Agent-Based Modeling. We are open sourcing Concordia, a platform for creating social simulations with language models. Code: github.com/google-deepmin… Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2312.03664

Language-mediated simulations of grounded environments where a Game Master (inspired by tabletop role-playing games) is responsible for simulating the environment. Very happy to launch Concordia, a library for generative agent-based modeling where you build simulations like tabletop roleplaying games! The game master (storyteller) is an agent who controls the environment where player agents interact, tracks state and can call external tools

I was exiled from DMG three years ago, but I still have so much love for the community. Now, it's insolvent. A sad end, but I hope we can carry on the spirit of DMG – radical inclusion, free self-expression, and transformative play. My thoughts: soand.so
