Tony Medina is a poet, scholar, and children's book author. His graphic novel I Am Alfonso Jones is an option in Grade 9 & Grade 10 Alfonso is killed while buying a suit and wakes up in the afterlife on a ghost train surrounded by other ghosts of victims of police shootings.

Esi Edugyan is a Ghanian Canadian author. Her novel Washington Black is a lit circle option in Gr12 University English. Washington Black follows the incredible and unlikely journey of an eleven-year-old field slave who is mentored by an eccentric explorer, set in the mid 1800s.

Malorie Blackman is the author of Noughts and Crosses,a lit circle (graphic novel) in Gr9/Gr10 English. Blackman is a British author who has numerous published works &also writes for TV. Noughts and Crosses presents a world that explores a reversal of systemic anti-Black racism

Another Brampton author, Ian Williams,is an English prof at UofT &author of 6 books of fiction, non-fiction,&poetry. Reproduction follows the story of Felicia and Edgar who meet as their mothers are dying. Come take it out in the CSI!
