DT5 exam passed today (DoTE stuff); now off till New Year’s Day when start Traction for 3 wks. Looking forward to fortnight off: been an intense 4 months so far. Hopefully start L-Plate driving Feb: getting closer 😮Jump to the Railways remains the best career move I’ve made!

Today, passed Traction assessment for 165’s. Next week will be 168’s. Demanding course but had an inspirational tutor - looking forward to the 168’s. After that, a further month then out with L-Plate’s on! Can’t believe how quick it’s gone. Still the best job I’ve ever had 👍🏻

Second & final part of traction course passed today (the conversion to 168’s)👌🏻Rest of the week will be spent on the simulator. Not much more left of the course before actually going out & getting driving hours in. Feels like a quick 6 months! Still the best job I’ve ever had 👍🏻

Sim session today: did not go well but, that’s what they’re for. All well & good knowing the theory, it’s putting it into practice that counts. Can reel off indications for T.C MCB trip in MOS & solution but, the doing is something else. Still the best job I’ve ever had 👍🏻

Simulator assessment passed this week ✅ Next week: empty coaching stock assessments under instruction on the mainline & then done & done - into the link with a DI & L-Plates! Last 7 months have gone v.quick.. becoming real now 😐 Best job I’ve ever had 👍🏻

ECS move completed few weeks back - passed & loved it: drive from the Shire into London & back. 165’s are aging but solid horses 👌🏻 Training school passed, now in a weird holding pattern waiting a DI so lots of revision/route knowledge. Best. Job. Ever 👊🏻

1st week w/ a DI & 14hrs of wheels turning time bagged. Thoughts: stopping w/ platform marker in the window is trickier than it looks - slow is smooth, smooth is fast! Drive to the gradient. Passcom suddenly going off makes you jump! DI’s have nerves of steel. Best job I’ve had

Just passed 30 hours supervised driving (out of absolute min req’t of 275). Loving it. Braking area cues for varying traction remains my focus. Finished nights today which involved shunting: crazy busy but great fun. Loads of propelling & coupling practiced. Loving it.

This guy on #GrandDesigns is a right whopper! Overbearing, control freak wide-boy more than happy to cut corners. Clearly mugged his architect son off because he couldn’t bear not being in charge. The neighbour Vic is a star though & needs to be knighted. Kevin McCloud

Completed my 275hrs DI supervised driving this week & been booked in for final week of qualifying exams starting 3rd Feb (DT13) 🍻🎉 till then continue with my legend of a DI till it’s starts. Can’t wait to get out there at long last! Still the best job I’ve had #traindriver

1st week of final route driving assessments & written exams passed & finished on a night this morning. Another 2 weeks to go! Taking a day off from swearing at the Sectional Appendix but back on it on the weekend. Best job I’ve ever had! #traindriver #trainee

Well that’s it: 18 months of training, exams, assessments and tests; the L-Plates and stabilisers can come off as I’ve just qualified and completed my first solo journey. The real learning starts now 👍🏻
