Former Sheffield Wednesday footballer Private Walter Eaton died of wounds on this day in 1917. The Sheffield-born fullback, who also played for both Rotherham County and Town, was serving with the 1st Tyneside Irish at the time of his death and is buried at Etaples Military a cemetery.
