1. THREAD I welcome history discussions in newspapers if article-writers have read the books they're criticizing. My book came out yesterday. This The Spectator
article, published 1 week ago, was sourced by BBC Radio 4 Today to ask a q. about my book's copper walk

Kildrummy Kirk. Swallow’s chattering over head and the call of the cuckoos return, time marches on but at least the melody is sweet.

Castle Fraser is great. For some it may be early C18th sideboards, fancy antiquated boxes..for me it’s the trout.

Birds of prey get shot so frequently in Yorkshire that reports of new incidents have to qualify that they aren’t the same incidents that happened the previous week. The absolute shame of it 😧.

Rogart Hands in pockets cold out of the sun. Dark skies threatening rain. Bright sunshine sweeping its way up the strath. The very tips of God's fingers poking through a gap in the cloud. A sharp edged slice. Just enough to turn willow catkins sulphurous yellow & warm the skin.

Happy St Georges day! Let an England flag illegally dumped in ancient bluebell woodland remind us of the madness of professing to love our country whilst allowing its rivers to be polluted with sewage, its ancient trees to be felled & its precious landscapes littered with plastic

Trying to decide what I like most about this: the header, the made-up quote (no-one says 'big butt warrior' in the text, even if we all do in our hearts), or the keyword 'science old' for archaeology

Still, only the boldest of buds dare to unfurl. Bluebells are mere shoots and the ramsons are yet to flower…Frozen, wind battered by hail and ever changing moods of sleet and rain, I do have to admire the daffs resilience. Aberdeenshire.

Promised myself if I woke up early I’d go to the forest to listen to the birds. Woke up at 4.30am, so off I went...
