Very shocked by this. Sue Ryder has some excellent excellent chaplains, but it seems the ‘powers that be’ still don’t understand spiritual care. Everyone will be the poorer; patients, relatives, and staff.

We are deeply concerned that Sue Ryder, huge provider of palliative & bereavement care in the UK (income £112 million, £33.6 from the Govt) - has decided to remove spiritual care delivery from its hospice inpatient and community provision #spiritualcare

CHCC Chaplaincy (@healthchaplains) 's Twitter Profile Photo

In doing so it has chosen to ignore NHS Guidelines, as well as that of the professional and regulatory bodes. It seems they plan to invite religious volunteers in (without the supervision of a chaplain) to provide complex emotional and spiritual support at #EOL Hospice UK

.BBC Berkshire local Sue Ryder decides to replace spiritual care with 'Wellbeing' team and prevents chaplains from applying to lead this, concerned they are "aligned to Christianity". Modern spiritual care teams there for everyone at difficult times.

CHCC (largest professional body in UK for spiritual care staff) we are deeply disappointed-Sue Ryder moving away from best practice #EOL care, ignoring NHS guidance and seemingly removing workforce (they recruited) because they are Christian.

a sad day when we have to recommend patients stay in hospital rather than a hospice to receive holistic spiritual care. Sue Ryder sadly not wanting to follow NHS best practice and make care open to everyone. NICE Care Quality Commission @NHS EOLP WeNurses 💙 NHS BLMK Health and Care Partnership 💙

Strange times when we begin recommending patients stay IN the NHS to receive holistic spiritual care rather than think about a Hospice. NICE Care Quality Commission Richard Littledale CQCProf Hospice UK @SueRyderSouthOx @SueRyderLCH

Received confirmation today that the post I job-share as Spiritual Care Coordinator (Chaplain) for Birmingham Hospice is being made redundant. This is in spite of many members of the community writing in to petition that this core service should be maintained. Michele Paduano

We are so very aware of the funding crisis in the hospice movement- but cutting spiritual care is like taking the soul out of holistic care. Where now do we recommend patients go to get spiritual care (especially if they are not religious?) #justnotholistic

Will Hospice UK say something about the number of hospices this week deciding that specialist spiritual care is no longer part of what they provide. We would value clear commitment on this vital issue. What do hospices stand for if no specialist spiritual care offered? BBCSundayMorningLive

Copied to BBCSundayMorningLive as little or no media interest in this - or indeed similar decision by Sue Ryder to remove spiritual care provision from ALL 7 hospices. Happy to explain the inequalities this brings about. Hospice care without spiritual care- what does this even mean?

CHCC Chaplaincy Quite simply: a palliative care service can not claim to be ‘Palliative Care’ if one of the globally recognised core elements (spiritual care) in holistic/total patient care is excised

shout out to Trinity Hospice who are recruiting a new Spiritual Care Co-ordinator and Chaplain in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, despite the difficult financial times. superb commitment to the principles spirituality at #EOL Hospice UK @ahpcc trinityhospice.co.uk/about-us/work-…

totally agree. not sure how much a hospice has to go from it roots to be called out by other hospice providers who remain committed to a holistic paradigm of care. So far Hospice UK has been sadly silent...

nothing yet from Hospice UK. anyone know if they actually look at Twitter?? 😅 just been reading hospiceuk.org/latest-from-ho… just 4 years ago...

Presenting the difficult situation Sue Ryder to NHS England today. So sad to have 5 Hospices without Spiritual Care specialists in place. Still not sure if Care Quality Commission will take seriously what they have done. I am presuming, sadly that Hospice UK will also say nothing.
