Daily Mirror article from 2017 "We follow George #Orwell's Road to Wigan Pier where poverty is now worse than the 1930s". I doubt things have improved much since 2017. Got Saturday 5 March in your diary yet? mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/f…

A large photo of George #Orwell was quickly recognised by local people visiting Headingley's Farmers' Market on Saturday. Many are surprised that he stayed for a while in 1936 in a street well-known amongst local students. Weather won't stop our walk, but bring a brolly.

This map, from George #Orwell's diary and notes, shows the towns he visited in 1936. Thanks Les Hurst from the Orwell Society for sending it, along with this link flickr.com/photos/theorwe… See you all on Saturday for the walk and talk!

All set for the George #Orwell in #Headingley walk and talk tomorrow, 5 March. I hope the weather is reasonably good. I'll bring a brolly anyway.

Great evening at #Headingley library yesterday with Ray Brown, who was relaunching his new novel #Whoosh! Several in the audience could actually remember the atmosphere in 1979. He read out a section on the #Fenton pub which was instantly recognisable.

We were honoured by the presence in 2015 of the inspirational and seemingly indefatigable #IbyKnill when she was launching her book 'A Woman Without A Number'. See our blog. headingleylitfest.blogspot.com

We are deeply shocked to hear of the death last Sunday of local resident and national treasure Kay Mellor. She was a good friend of Headingley LitFest who talked to us at an event in 2013 at the New Headingley Club, when we presented her with this bouquet.

We have always been active in local schools. In the past few months, yet another series of creative poetry sessions were led by Malika Booker, James Nash and Testament. Read this report on the most recent one by Malika at Brudenell Primary School - headingleylitfest.blogspot.com
