Pastors would better serve their people by expositing the Bible verse by verse, in its historical and grammatical context, rather than simply talking about the Bible and its (alleged) teachings. People already understand that the Bible is important.

The reasons offered for why "good Churches" are dying, going contemporary, or losing their "young people" range widely. Most are laughable (e.g., not praying enough, not working hard enough, not caring enough, etc.). The reason is simple. Baptists stopped "preaching" God's word.

Preaching has become more of a performance—extemporaneous, marked by vocal inflection and style—often a gross departure from the biblical text and the model observed in Scripture. This kind of so-called “Spirit-filled” preaching has produced a lost generation of Baptists.

The best counter for Church members seeking out Biblical teaching or preaching on the internet is to provide your Church with the best Biblical teaching and preaching. Continuing to serve up fleshly, allegorical, shallow sermons is the very thing pushing people to the internet.

If expositing the Bible is "boring" and people leave—let them go. The Bible will separate when preached correctly. When they leave, do not take it personally. Build those that stay. You want people who truly want to know the Lord Jesus Christ in your Church—regenerated people.
