The Reading Rooms are places where stories are written and stories are shared, where silent conversations take place with authors living and departed, and where knowledge is uncovered and texts re-interpreted. Do you have any special memories or moments in the Reading Rooms?

It might be a bit late in the day for this (near 5pm where we are) but we have a new coffee machine! Are you a coffee drinker? Do you keep sipping black gold into the evenings, or do you caffeinate carefully? Either way, come and try it out. We serve hot drinks from 10am-5pm.

"It is only by reflection that one can assimilate what one has read. If one reads straight ahead without pondering over it later, what has been read does not take root, but is for the most part lost.” ― Arthur Schopenhauer

Our new coffee machine is in action, so we decided to test it again... you know, just in case. 😉 ☕ Latte, cappuccino, flat white or espresso: which do you think would go best with a good book, and which would you choose to fuel a writing session?

The path through the Hawarden castle gates is a gentle rising and falling walk through lovely meadowland. If you spot 'permit needed' signs, stop and turn around - though if you are staying the night at the Library, you can ask for that permit and continue your ramble.

We will stop banging on about our new coffee machine for a bit. Here's a hot chocolate instead. Yum-yum! Hot and cold drinks and sweet treats are served from 10am to 5pm. We recommend booking on 01244 532 350 for lunch (noon-2pm) but you can just drop by outside then.
