Also HECS is a debt that you are roundly encouraged to get by dint of being encouraged to pursue higher education as far as possible so you can get a halfway decent job. Shaming people within that system for the consequences of that system - which they have to bear - is fucked.

Sydney and Melbourne friends, the absolutely lovely sam wallman and Jeff Sparrow wrote and drew a book together called 12 Rules for Strife, it's the political manifesto you actually need, and they're launching it in both these cities, and you should go along

I hoped my 'anatomy of a genocide' report to the United Nations Human Rights Council would be a wake-up call for States who are aiding/abetting Israel's genocide in Gaza. Instead, despite several UNGA res +one UNSC res ordering a ceasefire, & CIJ_ICJ provisional measures, this genocide seems unstoppable.

government and Home Affairs department giving a very strange appearance in a hastily-convened Senate committee on the deportation laws - saying it's urgent that parliament pass the laws, but can't say why, or exactly who it'd apply to, or which countries they'll be deported to

Sociologist Randa Abdel-Fattah says there are journalists who share their grievances with media coverage of Gaza in private, but are too scared to speak out in public.

She says that’s no longer acceptable.

I spoke to Coles workers this week about an offer from the supermarket giant of in-store gift cards if they vote to accept a new EBA. They said it was “insulting” as the agreement doesn’t give them a meaningful pay rise despite the company’s huge profits.

Just a small sample of the casual I sometimes cop as an Arab Australian journalist 🤌🏽

Notice how polite I was to him before he declared immigrants are the root of all problems.

I was covering a hit and run by the way…but I guess the culprit is always “immigrants”.

Same. Perhaps one thinks that after seeing scores of dead babies and gunshot wounds, the girl hanging mutilated on the side of the building, the man burning himself to death in protest, that one might become inured to the horror. But every day there’s another atrocity.

Or have you wished you could, but can’t for reasons out of your control?
