The Minister of MoFAD, Hon. Hawa Koomson yesterday met with the Local Organizing Committee and Heads of Sub-committees for the 7th OACPS Meeting of Ministers in Charge of Fisheries and Aquaculture to discuss issues towards the preparations of the 7th OACPS meeting in April, 2022.

The Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) was established in 1975 by the George Town Agreement, which brought together Seventy Nine (79) countries from three (3) regional blocs: Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.

The organization's principal goals include sustainable development and poverty reduction within its member states, as well as better integration into the global economy. It was previously known as the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States (ACP).

The OACP Member States except Cuba are signatories to the Cotonou Agreement also known as OACPS - European Union Partnership Agreement which binds them to the EU. The Agreement enables OACP and EU Member States to cooperate in many development sectors including fisheries.

The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS),ECOWAS, the East African Community (EAC), the Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA),and SADC are the 5 Economic Partnership Agreement Groups that the African OACP member states negotiate in (SADC).
