Someone fed my dad pepper today even though he asked them not to put it in the Thanksgiving food & he got sick & had to go home. They thought “a little” would be ok. No means no. If someone has food allergies/sensitivities, dietary preferences, religious reasons, etc—no means no!

A reporter asked me: why do I wish people “happy holidays“? Because from 1 November to 15 January there are approximately 29 holidays observed by 7 of the world’s major religions. And I don’t think mine are the only ones that count. There’s no war on Christmas…

Something that makes it easier to become burned out as a GC stems from the pressure of grad school. There are so many deadlines and your clinical rotations are only so long, so it’s hard to realize in the workplace that many things can get done in your own time. #GeneChat

I love that we’re trained for any specialty in our genetic counseling programs. Working in neurogenetics, other topics come up often. I have to reach out to a family to talk about a hereditary cancer predisposition, and it doesn’t feel like something out of my scope. #GeneChat

Does anyone have any tips for swabbing older adolescent patients with aggression? I had an experience that felt traumatizing for everyone involved yesterday and would love to hear strategies others have used in the past! #GeneChat
