We have been using our Science lesson to identify various trees using classification keys. We had more species of tree in our school than we realised! We looked at the features and characteristics of the leaves to identify the trees. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

Year 4 have been developing their understanding and application of symmetry. They have identified symmetrical shapes and created their own patterns and can talk about why a shape is asymmetrical. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

We have used additional research materials to determine whether the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings were very similar or very different in terms of their beliefs. With our research, we completed a short write up of our findings. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

There was lots of discussion and final decisions this afternoon, as Year finalised their design briefs and plans, so that they can make their torches. They considered methods, materials / equipment and annotated their work. GarstonCE

Today, Year 4 have begun to learn about time and focused on key vocabulary and setting times. In Geography, they have started a topic on natural resources. They have read about and discussed them and considered which ones they use on a daily basis. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

Year 4 used atlases in Geography to identify different countries around the world that have large reserves of various natural resources. They labelled them on a map and wrote sentences about a how the resources are used globally. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

In Art, Year 4 have used the work of Beate Kuhn as inspiration for their first lesson on Viking art. They investigated the use of shape, form and tone to create various imagery in their book. They also recapped on pencil grips. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

Year 4 have loved choosing their new Reading for pleasure books after a brilliant session with Lisa, John and Russell as part of the Young Readers event today. Lots of great ideas shared about how to creative when writing a #YoungReadersProgramme GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

Year 4 loved their TAPS Science lesson investigating why things are classed as solids, liquids and gases. They really enjoyed the biscuit dipping to see the effects of heat on solids. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

We had a visit from BTales and we took part in some fantastic drama activities based around the lessons taught in the parable of the Good Samaritan. We are developing the value of always being there for one another and looking after ourselves and one another.

We were visited by Merseyside Police and their amazing response car. The children loved having a look around and listened to how the officers use the vehicles on a daily basis. GarstonCE Rainbow Education MAT

A brilliant first few days back in Year 4. The class have been settling well and taken part in a range of learning including addition, narrative writing, British Values, Spanish and tennis. A really positive start. GarstonCE

Year 4 are loving their Spanish lesson this afternoon based on recognising colours. They have also worked on their knowledge of Trust today in PSHCE and have tennis this afternoon. #garstonce
