Punishment-based response is the OPPOSITE of what many of our children need.

They get: Social isolation, disconnection, relationship rupture.

They need: Socialisation, connection, relationship repair.

Some of the ways I did things when I first became a foster parent... harmed children.

It's painful to admit that, and to think back.

I didn't intend it. I was doing the best I could.

Curiosity moved me forward. Knowing better. Doing better.

Working on some designs for The Centre of Excellence in Child Trauma this weekend.

Loving these waves. Seems appropriate. Water is calming, but trauma comes in waves, and is layered.

Yesterday I took one of my kids out of school for a couple of hours.

Simply because it’s what she needed.

School fully supported us.

That’s how it works in Wales. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
